Surfing Australia Announces TravelSIM Team Australia for the Billabong ISA World Surfing Games

July 14, 2009 – Surfing Australia today announced its powerful  TravelSIM Team Australia which departs in the final week of July  for Costa Rica to represent Australia at the  Billabong ISA World Surfing Games 2009.

The eight surfer team consists of four current Association of Surfing Professionals (ASP) World Tour surfers along with the two open Longboard surfers who are experienced ASP World Tour competitors.

 

Open Men:

Mick Campbell (ASP World Tour rating 13/Port Macquarie NSW ),

Dayan Neve (ASP World Tour Rating 24/ Manly),

Dane Atcheson (Current Country Energy  Australian Champion/Central Coast/Copacabanna NSW),

Matt Bemrose (2007 Country Energy Australian Champion and 2008 runner up/Manly).

Open Women

Samantha Cornish (ASP World Tour rated 9/Crescent Head NSW),

Amee Donohoe (ASP World Tour rated 13/Central Coast NSW )

Harley Ingelby (ASP World Tour rated 3/Coff’s Harbour NSW)

Team Coach and World Surfing Champion Barton Lynch was enthusiastic with the team announcement saying, “We are stoked with the team we have been able to put together. This team is a great well balanced with a solid combination of experience and youth. Importantly, we have excellent friendships in place among team members that will ensure a cohesive and spirited team to defend our title”.

Surfing Australia CEO and Team Manager Andrew Stark commented on the team today saying, “This is  a very high quality and experienced  team and we are looking forward to the challenge of defending the Billabong ISA World Surfing Games title.

Being a part of TravelSim Team Australia and representing Australia is a proud achievement for all of the team and we’ll head to Costa Rica fully prepared for the challenges ahead.”

The Billabong ISA World Surfing Games 2009 are to be held at Playa Hermosa, Jaco, Costa Rica, August 1st through the 8th.

 

About the ISA
The International Surfing Association (ISA) is recognized by the International Olympic Committee (IOC) as the World Governing Authority for Surfing and all Surfriding activities, including Short Board, Longboard, Bodyboard, Kneeboard, Tandem, Skimboard, Tow In and Stand Up Paddle surfing. It was originally founded as the International Surfing Federation in 1964 and has been running world championships since 1964 and the Junior World Championships since 1980.

ISA membership includes the surfing National Governing Bodies (NGBs) of over 50 countries on six continents. Its headquarters are located in La Jolla, California. It is presided by Fernando Aguerre, first elected in 1994 in Rio, and re-elected six times since. The ISA’s four Vice Presidents are Alan Atkins (Australia), Robin de Kock (South Africa), Mike Gerard (USA), and Karin Sierralta (Peru).

Surfing Australia anuncia el Equipo Australiano TravelSIM para los Billabong ISA World Surfing Games

14 de julio de 2009 – Surfing Australia anunció hoy su poderoso Equipo Australiano TravelSIM de Surfing que partirá a Costa Rica en la última semana de julio para representar Australia en los Billabong ISAWorld Surfing Games 2009.

El equipo de ocho surfistas consiste en cuatro surfistas actualmente rankeados en el ASP World Tour, junto a dos Longboarders experimentados en las competencias de la ASP.

El Coach del Equipo y Campeón Mundial Barton Lynch se mostró feliz con el anuncio del equipo y dijo: “Estamos contentos con el equipo que hemos logrado seleccionar. Éste es genial y bien balanceado con una clara combinación de experiencia y juventud. Es importante tener en cuenta también que entre ellos hay una gran camaradería, lo que asegurará un excelente espíritu de equipo que defenderá nuestro título.”

El CEO de Surfing Australia y Team Manager, Andrew Stark comentó sobre el equipo, diciendo lo siguiente: “Éste es un equipo de alta calidad y muy experimentado y estamos expectantes por enfrentar el desafío de defender nuestro título en los Billabong ISA World Surfing Games 2009. Ser parte del Equipo TravelSim de Australia y representar Australia es un logro honorable para todo el equipo e iremos a Costa Rica totalmente preparados para el desafío que tenemos por delante”.

Los Billabong ISA World Surfing Games serán realizados en Playa Hermosa, Jaco, Costa Rica desde el 1 hasta el 8 de agosto.

 

Sobre la International Surfing Association
La International Surfing Association (ISA) es reconocida por el Comité Olímpico Internacional (COI) como la Autoridad Gobernante en el mundo de todas las actividades de surfriding, incluyendo tabla corta, Longboard, Bodyboard, Kneeboard, Tandem, Skimboard, Tow In y Stand Up Paddle surfing. Originalmente fue fundada como la Federación Internacional de Surf en 1964 y ha realizado los Campeonatos Mundiales desde ese entonces y los Mundiales Junior desde 1980.
